T.J.'s Hideaway
About This Spot
Stepping into T.J.’s Hideaway feels like slipping into a well-loved local treasure, where the hum of easy conversations and the clink of glasses set a relaxed, welcoming tone. Nestled along Spithaler School Road in Evans City, this unassuming spot invites a comforting blend of familiarity and warmth—a place where neighbors gather and new friends are made over hearty plates and a thoughtful selection of drinks.
The pace here is unpretentious, with a steady, inviting rhythm that encourages lingering. The lively bar buzzes softly, framing the space with a sense of casual camaraderie, while the dining area welcomes you with simple comforts and a little background noise that feels more like a gentle soundtrack to shared moments than a distraction.
At the heart of the experience is food that speaks plainly but with genuine care—fresh, generous, and deeply satisfying. Think of a table dotted with rich, indulgent bites like a king-sized pretzel meant for sharing, tender prime rib that melts lightly on the tongue, or those wings that earn their loyal following in every savory, perfectly crisp bite. It’s the kind of food that’s as much about the company you keep as it is about the flavors themselves.
The menu’s approachable variety—classic club sandwiches, comforting pot roasts, crispy fried green beans, and inventive twists like stuffed banana peppers or loaded tots—mirrors the welcoming spirit of the place. Whether you’re stopping in after a busy day, catching up with friends over a cold beer, or discovering a new favorite hand-crafted dish, there’s a subtle joy in every visit here.
More than just a restaurant, T.J.’s Hideaway exudes a quietly genuine character, where kindness and human moments ripple just beneath the surface. It’s a spot that feels like home, not because it tries to be, but because it truly is—a hidden gem where people aren’t just patrons, but part of the story being woven around every table.

Definitely a bar with excellent food, huge king Pretzel. Great selection of beers and full liquor bar. Burgers were good, fried fish dinner, chicken salad and Ruben sandwich were really good too.

Omg! We were in butler for some errands and decided on our way home to stop here as we live in Pittsburgh. OH MY GOSH!! Worth the stop! I’ve never had food as fresh and delicious as this in the city. Me and my husband both grew up in the county so having a place like this to come to was amazing! It wasn’t too busy, but it was soooo goood! We got fried pickles and loaded tots for appetizers and they were fire. The tiger sauce with the fried pickles is sooo amazing. It has a nice horseradish zing to it! Also, the pickles were fresh and battered to order. The tots were so cheesy! We ate them before we could take pictures. We had 2 pitchers of beer and a shot of whiskey and it was very reasonably priced. We had the pot roast entree and I had the Philly style sirloin steak sandwich. The sandwich with the tiger sauce is dreams come true. I opted for the side salad since I had tots. The side salad was perfect and big portion. Homemade ranch there too!! My husband had the awesome pot roast on a piece of Italian toast and fries smothered in gravy. Delicious. At home food like we grew up on. If you’re in the area please check this place out!!

I want to thank the folks at TJ' s for their kindness and fast response when my brother collapsed yesterday . The young man who i believe is a cook gave compression after he stopped breathing which very possibly saved his life. They called 911 and EMT's came quickly to stabilize. They took him to BHS where he is being tested , but doing okay as of now. Again i thank you all, it showed what a class act if people run the restaurant...

Food and service were good. Background noise a little loud to carry on a conversation with another couple.

I read a review that said best wings. I had to try. Yeah...you won't be disappointed. The fries are home made...which are the best! Nacho Grande was excellent too...and a lot of food. Thank you TJ...I almost didn't find you.

Quick dinner tonight. TJ’s just outside Evans City. Nice place for your standard bar fare. Best fish in this area. Anyway, wings tonight. They have a nice full wing. Ordered crispy. Buffalo ranch sauce. Just the right amount. Just a basic, above average wing that is local to me when you need to scratch an itch. Pro tip, if you like crispy wings, wing night is not the time to come. The place gets bombed and the fryers, IMHO, just never recover. Don’t sleep on the Hideaway Fries or the fried green beans.
